Q:
What do your multi-age classrooms look like?
A: The Glade Park School currently offers K -3rd grade education in one classroom. One grade per year will be added up through 5th grade. One Lead Teacher and one full-time Teacher Aide staff the school with the help of community and parent volunteers.
Q:
How is the curriculum similar to and different from other
schools?
A: All district schools teach to the same standards and curriculum. What varies is the way in which they go about teaching those subjects. At the Glade Park School you will find a unique emphasis on hands-on learning, multi-age classrooms, and learning from/about community and the natural environment. Be sure to explore the “Curriculum” section of this website for more information.
Q:
Are there plans to move to a different facility?
A: Our school currently operates in a temporary facility. A local nonprofit organization, On The Park, is in the process of building a permanent facility for the school in collaboration with the school district and individual contributors. We expect the new schoolhouse to be completed by Fall 2011.
Q:
How is the community involved in this “community” school?
A: The community is not just a part of this school, the community is making this school happen. Neighbors are meeting the school district's request to help identify and secure a place for our wonderful school to meet. Neighbors are watching children before and after school, helping out in the classroom, contributing their musical talents to festivals and celebrations, teaching handwork, taking students on field trips.... This is what it's all about. Other opportunities to be involved include helping with construction of our permanent facility, contributing financially, and working with the school's parent-teacher association.
Q:
Can I come visit the school to learn more?
A: Absolutely!
Contact the school to arrange a time.
Q:
How do I enroll my child?
A: Registration and enrollment forms and information are available on the school district website.
Please also notify Lead Teacher Tree Humbert of your intent to enroll so that a priority list can be kept in the case that interest exceeds capacity for the upcoming academic year.
